This view is taken from the locality called the Centre Gate. A considerable damage was done to this Joss House during the bombardment, but it suffered most by the act of one of the Braves, who, thinking the building occupied by some of the Barbarians, sought to distinguish himself by throwing a bag of gunpowder into the interior; the explosion that ensued demolished a great portion of the difice.
