La Bibliotheque Infernale (The infernal library)
This strange view is called a 'Diablerie', and is a staged photograph of clay figures depicting scenes in hell.
Like the previous theatrical photograph, it is also a 'tissue view'; when hold to light, the colored background
is shining through the thin photographic tissue paper as seen on the right side of the view.
The eyes of the skeletons and skulls are shining because of little pinpricks covered with red translucent paint.
Tissue views are very fragile and unfortunately only few have survived undamaged.
